Michelle Voorhees

Welcome to 5th Grade!

Meet the Teacher

My name is Michelle Voorhees, and I am excited to be your teacher this year!  First, let me introduce myself.  I have been teaching since 2004 and this is my fifth year teaching 5th grade at WCSA.  When I'm not in school, I love to spend time with my husband Tom, and our two children Asher and Mia.  I also love to dance, read, draw, and watercolor paint.

About 5th Grade

This year, our class will be exploring many exciting topics.  We will learn about the engineering cycle and use our skills to develop solutions to problems in our daily lives.  This work will lead us to the Invention Convention.  In Social Studies, we'll focus on learning American History and learn all about the 50 states.  In math, we'll build on the skills students learned in 4th grade, and work in new areas such as coordinate geometry and problem solving with decimals and fractions.  In literacy, we'll continue to have reading and writing workshops.

Parent-Teacher Communication

Keeping parents informed about what is going on in our classroom is very important to me.  I will be posting my newsletter on our class website frequently as well as sending e-mails with timely information and reminders.  In addition, I will be sending home finished work and handouts in our Friday folders.  Please keep an eye out for this important communication tool.  Please go to the following link to fill out a quick family survey.  This survey will help me get to know your child and learn specific goals you may have for them this year and help me get started on my e-mail list.
